Sweetnam secures World Cup final place with Florida third

Show jumper Shane Sweetnam has no intention of just making up the numbers when he contests his first World Cup final next April in Sweden.

The US-based Corkman steered Amaretto d’Arco to third place on Saturday night in the $125,000 World Cup qualifier in Florida to copperfasten his place in the final and yesterday said he would be as competitive as ever in looking to give Ireland its first World Cup title.

“This is the first year I really tried to qualify for the final. It was a goal for the second half of the year and now we can concentrate on the trip.
