Brilliant Brunell too strong for Cork rivals
The opening quarter was a pulsating period with the lead changing hands on six occasions.
A superb late drive to the hoop by Glanmire’s Lesley Ann Wilkinson tied the game at 13 points apiece entering the second quarter.
On the restart both sides traded baskets up to the fifth minute with Brunell holding a 24-21 lead when suddenly the game changed dramatically in the space of three minutes.
In that period Brunell inspired by Megan O’Leary shot 10 unanswered points and despite Glanmire recovering in the closing minutes, they had a mountain to climb at the interval, trailing 39-30.
Sadly for Glanmire they continued to chase the game as the class of Brunell saw them run out comfortable winners, much to the delight of coach Kieran O’Leary.
“I never thought that I would see the day when we would won one title but to win two is simply a dream come true,” O’Leary said.
