Britton delivers and targets Poland trip

Fionnuala Britton reigned supreme again at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country on Saturday confirming herself as the best cross country runner in Europe whilst also issuing a rallying call to Athletics Ireland to send a women’s team to the World Cross Country Championships in March.

Britton delivers and targets Poland trip

Britton was a dominant winner in the 6km race crossing the line in 20:40 and despite falling coming out of a stream towards the finish at Holyrood Park, had 16 seconds to spare over second-placed Adrienne Herzog (Holland) to lead Europe to the overall team title. Mattie Suver of the USA was third. Linda Byrne had an excellent race to finish in sixth.

Afterwards Britton was delighted with her victory and was keen for an Irish women’s team, the European Champions, to be sent to the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland on March 24.
