Hail inspirational King Henry

Given the year that’s in it, and even allowing for all the fine Irish performances at the London Olympics, allowing also for yet another Heineken Cup for an Irish province, there’s only contender for me – Henry Shefflin.

Hail inspirational King Henry

Look at all the records set or improved on: a ninth All-Ireland senior hurling medal won on the field of play, taking him past the legendary Christy Ring and John Doyle; yet another All Star statue, his 11th; a third Hurler of the Year award; extending his own record as top scorer in GAA history. Put it all together, this has been a stellar season for the Ballyhale man.

Even more impressive, however, and added reason for my choice, is the manner in which it was achieved.
