New Irish senior men’s coach Andrew Meredith has revealed himself to be a former art director and lover of graphic design — his method of switching off from “a hotel room that looks like NASA” while away at hockey tournaments.

He won’t be taking any broad brushstrokes to the Irish panel however, as he this week meticulously outlined the processes he wants to put in place having “identified weaknesses in the team in terms of the prerequisites required” for Ireland to take on the world’s top 10.

The Australian said he was relishing the chaotic start to his reign, which gave him just four days’ preparation with the team prior to the Champions Challenge I, where he piloted them to an unexpected bronze medal in their first year at that level a fortnight ago.
