Luckless Bandon fall to Crescent

Bandon Grammar surrendered their Munster Senior Schoolgirls Cup title in cruel fashion as the new own goal rule undid them yesterday.

In a repeat of last year’s decider, won by the West Cork school on penalty strokes, Bandon more than matched a powerful Crescent side stride for stride, but a crash ball in the dying seconds of the first half took a double deflection and found a route to goal.

Under new guidelines adopted in September, any touch in the circle can now cause a goal, whereas previously a long corner would have ensued if the only touch in the D came off a defensive stick.
