Scannell paints positive picture for Neptune

Bord Gáis Neptune coach Mark Scannell admits his team ‘‘are where we want to be’’ ahead of the visit of UCD Marian to Cork tomorrow evening.

Scannell’s side recorded victory over DCU Saints last weekend while their opponents suffered a bitter defeat to Moycullen after double overtime.

But Scannell last night painted a positive picture of the mood in the camp.

He said: “We are on a good run at the moment and are training very hard. As a team we are where we want to be. We did lose to UCD Marian a few weeks ago so we are not taking anything for granted. However, I feel we have learned our lessons and will be well prepared for a good game.”

Moycullen bid to build on the sensational victory last weekend but coach Salva Camps has warned his side against complacency.

He explained: “We were delighted with the win last weekend but understand that DCU Saints will be difficult opponents for us. They are a very strong team.”

The Dublin side are desperate to bounce back from two heartbreaking losses, according to coach David Donnelly. He said: “Moycullen had a great win last weekend and they have home advantage this weekend so this is a big challenge for us.’’

In the weekend’s other ties Dublin Inter face UCC Demons at the National Basketball Arena while Killester play UL Eagles in the IWA in Clontarf. Mark Keenan, coach of the UL Eagles said: “We didn’t play great last weekend, we started weak but finished strong and came away with the win that we wanted. I personally don’t think Killester’s current record suggests how good that can actually be so we can’t be complacent.”
