Marshall horse tests positive for banned substance

Horse Sport Ireland last night revealed that a horse ridden by Antrim show jumper Harry Marshall tested positive for a controlled medication last May.

Marshall was competing the stallion Derryinver Luxury Cruise at Cavan Equestrian Centre on May 20 when it was found to have in its system the anti-inflammatory phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone which is banned in competition. The horse was selected for sampling as the winner of the second leg of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Series.

Following a hearing before a disciplinary panel, “Mr Marshall and Derryinver Luxury Cruise were given a 10-week period of ineligibility,” backdated to run from May 20 to July 29, resulting in the loss of all prizes won during this period.

Marshall was also fined €500 and ordered to pay €1,500 towards legal costs incurred by HSI.
