It may be early in the season, but that didn’t stop Neptune coach Mark Scannell breathing a sigh of relief in the wake of a first Superleague win of the season.

“That was a win that was coming… we needed that,” said the Cork stalwart after Neptune eased to a 90-68 win over Moycullen. “We got 11 men into the game tonight so it was an all-round team effort. I am very happy with our defence especially in the first half, I really believe that it is what got us the win.”

Both sides went into that encounter winless — but in Limerick, UL Eagles and UCC Demons were defending perfect records for this campaign. It showed too, in a tense struggle, edged by the Cork side, 78-76.
