Wish can make the most of drop in class

Splendid Wish enjoys a quick drop in class for tonight’s fifth race at Curraheen Park and Niamh McCarthy’s oldstager warrants the nap selection.

Drawn ideally, along the rails, she looks likely to lead around the turn and it should be a case of ‘come and catch me if you can’.

When last in a similar grade — just two runs ago — she led early but only narrowly held the run of Petite Dainjou by a short head.

That looked a shade disappointing, but the runner-up has since won a couple of 600-yards races at Thurles and there may have been more merit to the victory than was apparent at the time.

Splendid Wish also ran well in a higher grade last time out, when she was outpaced by Maeves Prince, but stayed on well to secure second spot. This is certainly easier and if she gets first run, she should be able to stave off the late gains of Toumpane Leah and Today Free.

The final of the Greyhound & Pet World A6 is the feature race of the night and while Sir Adam is likely to garner most of the interest, it may be more prudent to stick with the well-drawn and unbeaten Muskerry Messi. The latter hadn’t a lot to spare over the aforementioned Sir Adam or the promising Awbeg Lady when winning his semi-final heat, but he’s drawn to lead again and that might be enough.
