Zara Phillips to headline Ballindenisk Horse Trials

Zara Phillips, the grand-daughter of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, will bid for successive victories when she returns next month for the Johnson & Perrott Land Rover International Horse Trials in Ballindenisk, Cork.

The former world and European champion will face her fellow London team silver medallist and world No1, William Fox-Pitt, along with competitors from Australia the US, and the best of Irish talent, including Joseph Murphy, who placed 14th in London, and local Olympian Michael Ryan.

The Irish Examiner is a media sponsor of the event at the north Cork venue which runs from Sept 13–16. It is also the first step to one of the richest prizes in the sport, the €50,000 Goresbridge Go For Gold bonus prize, which will be awarded if the winning horse/rider combination in the short-format class finishes tops in next year’s long-format contest.
