Delta looks rock solid in Southern Oaks decider

The Makeshift Southern Oaks is the feature race on the calendar at Youghal Track and the large crowd expected to gather at the east Cork venue for this evening’s final will enjoy free entry to the track thanks to the Track Supporters’ Club and Kearney Catering.

The competition attracted a top-class entry and victory in the final can be expected to go to Graham Holland’s Rockburst Delta, who finished third behind Milldean Tally in the Sporting Press Irish Oaks at Shelbourne Park earlier in the year.

She’s capable of a faster break than she has produced in either of her heats to date and she looks drawn to turn close to the pace this time. She stayed particularly strongly last week and will be hard to hold if turning unscathed. Madam Shaw, drawn on the rails, has plenty of local knowledge and is capable of a big run.

Billy Twomey’s Touch Of Dignity is taken to land the final of the Youghal Track Supporters’ Club A4 Stake. A lightly raced youngster with potential for further improvement, he got the better of a terrific buckle with Shedfield Deuce in last week’s semi-final, using the inside line to his advantage. He is drawn on the right side of the rival once more and can be expected to confirm the form.

Ger Geary’s Ashville Joker can take the final of the Greenbarn A6. Another lightly raced youngster, he possesses smart early pace and can show his rivals a clear set of paws as they rush for the turn. Corrin Shaw, who won the other semi-final, needs to clear kennel companion Corrin Esther early if he is to have a say.

Over at Curraheen Park, the nap selection goes to Shelbourne Kish, who runs in the opener. Although still without a win after 10 attempts, Erica Daly’s bitch has shown more than enough to suggest that she should be capable of winning a race soon. Tonight’s grade (A5-A6) and trip (550 yards) provide the perfect conditions for her to lose her maiden tag.
