Shock defeat for Jet in Derby heat

A shock defeat for Droopys Jet and the elimination of that great old veteran Tyrur Big Mike were the major talking points last night at Shelbourne when the first eight heats in the second round of the Ladbrokes Irish Derby were run.

Shock defeat for Jet in Derby heat

Droopys Jet looked set for victory when getting away fast from the four trap in Heat 5 and he went clear to the bend from Tyrur Willyjoe. But the danger signals began to flash when Skywalker Puma tracked brilliantly to move into second on the second bend. Skywalker closed into the third and then got up close home for a three parts of a length verdict over Droopys in 29.70.

Tyrur Big Mike missed the start in Heat 6 and after running wide on the corner he was never in contention. However the Francie Murray trained Cesarewitch winner Subway Ruth broke smartly from trap five and led up. Once in front she was never going to be beaten and ran on strongly for a length and a half margin over Killbarry Rover in 29.67.
