Jayfkay on Derby trail

With the Champion Stakes and Derby just around the corner, there are no major competitions currently underway and as a result it’s one of the more low-key Saturday night’s at Shelbourne.

The feature of the card is the Ladbrokes.com Derby Trial Stake and Razldazl Jayfkay will start a warm favourite to gain free passage into the blue riband event.

Dolores Ruth’s dog will be having his first start since unluckily eliminated at the semi-final stage of the English Derby. Usually a very fast starter, he stands out as the one to beat.

The strong-running Tibetan Skies looks the main threat, although he does need the gaps to arrive at the right times.

There are some very promising young trackers in action in the fifth race.

Tyrur Sugar Ray makes his eagerly anticipated bow over the Derby distance and he should take some stopping if he getting loose early.

Former Derby champion Tyrur McGuigan bids to put a couple of defeats behind him in the ninth race, but he will need to be at his sharpest, with Liam Dowling’s talented tracker Ballymac Vic drawn on his immediate inside. Kingo is a doubtful runner.

Earlier on the card the final of the Tyrur McGuigan open 525 features some top-class prospects. Pat Buckley’s Dragon Shield boasts serious early speed and the son of Cabra Cool will be bidding to maintain his unbeaten career record, though Borna Gem should force him to pull out all the stops.

Racing ends with an intriguing contest over 575yards, in which Razldazl Barrack and Slippery Patch should dominate.
