Exciting Henry drawn to win

Tonight’s opening semi-finals of the Curraheen A3 hosts a number of very promising youngsters but the exciting Brogan Henry made quite an impression when winning his first-round heat last Saturday night and from a perfect draw, he is a confident selection to follow up.

Exciting Henry drawn to win

Marguerite O'Donoghue's sole wide seed has a terrific turn of early pace and, with Inishkeny Acer sure to be moving in, he should enjoy the freedom of the track on the run to the first turn.

Desert Kewell and Goulane Rex both impressed in victory last weekend but they are drawn close together and something will have to give.

Brogan Henry, who likes to maintain a middle-to-wide course throughout, has very little to find on the clock and with plenty more to give, he should gallop to victory, with Goulane Rex most likely to follow him home.

John O’Mahony’s Toureen Bridge can take the second semi-final. He made a very promising first start over four bends when failing by the minimum margin to reel in all-the-way winner Express Agent in last week’s heats.

He missed the kick on that occasion but produced a sustained effort which just came up shy. Certainly capable of a better break, he should be prominent throughout and can be expected to make amends for last week’s defeat.

Elle Driver caught the eye in defeat last time and with a drop in grade and a step up in trip very much in her favour, she can take race eight for Michael Spillane of Blarney.

The bitch is going in the right direction and should be hard to beat, though Witches Peter, who was unlucky in defeat in a stake final last week, would be dangerous if getting free early.
