McKay and Wall advance

Antrim light-flyweight Jason McKay and Kerry middleweight Brian Wall are through to the today’s finals at the European Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

McKay, who boxes out of the Canal BC, was tied with Bulgaria’s Iliyan Kolev after the first but edged the second 7-6 en route to an 11-10 win.

McKay will now meet Suleiman Bammatov of Russia in today’s 48kg decider.

Wall, of the Cashen Vale BC, is up against Bammatov’s compatriot Magomed Magemedov.

Wall, who plays in midfield for the Kerry U16 football team, recorded a convincing 13-7 verdict over Hungary’s Zsolt Kovas yesterday.
