Sycerika McMahon, Irish swimming’s newest sensation, produced a brilliant performance to take a silver medal in the women’s 50 metres Breastroke at the European Senior Championships in Debrecen in Hungary yesterday.

The race was won by the Czech Republic’s Petra Chocova in 31.25 with Germany’s Caroline Rahnau taking the bronze medal.

McMahon now joins Gary O’Toole (1989 Bonn) Michelle Smith (Vienna 1995 and Seville 1997) and Gráinne Murphy (Budapest 2010) as a medallist at a European Long Course (50 metres) Championship meet.
