Kieran Behan continues his remarkable rise through the sport and tomorrow competes in the floor exercise final at the European Artistic Championships.

The 23-year-old from London — who back in January became the first Irish gymnast to qualify for an Olympic Games since Barry McDonald in 1996 — comfortably and confidently came through the early stages of the competition in Montpellier. His third place finish on Thursday ensured he became the first Irish gymnast to reach a European final.

Behan said: “I am very happy, it is an incredible result to have qualified in third position and to have held first place for so long. It was an anxious wait to see the final qualification result but the outcome is fantastic. It’s been a great European Championships so far. I plan to go out on Sunday and nail my routine with style.”
