Ryan’s joy at brilliant world bronze

Ireland’s Caroline Ryan produced a phenomenal performance to win a bronze medal in the Points race at the Track World Championships in Melbourne yesterday.

Ryan, a former international rower rode an aggressive race and managed to get away with three others before ‘lapping’ the remainder of the 18-strong field.

The race was won by Russian powerhouse Anastasia Chulkova, who was part of that front quartet, and her dash to the line in the final sprint won them their first gold at this level since 2004.
