Fastest opening-round winner Tyrur Willyjoe bids to continue his winning ways in the first heat, although his task is less than straightforward with Loughteen Blanco, Royal Patrol, Razldazl Will, Subway Gerry and Slippery Patch in opposition.
He may start favourite, but be warned that if he fails to lead around the turn, he could struggle to get a clear passage with Loughteen Blanco and Royal Patrol drawn on his inside.
There is also a safety warning for followers of Derby champion Razldazl George in Heat 2. He looked rusty in his opening-round defeat when only scraping through in fourth. He is expected to come on greatly for that effort, although he hasn’t been handed a favourable draw.
With the fast-starting Rockview Head expected to edge wide in the early yards, Razldazl George may need to ride a bump. That will favour the greyhounds drawn on his outside, including first-round winners Coolard Chief and Airlie Impact.
One of the big clashes of the evening comes in Heat 3 where Gold Cup winner Piercestown Sand takes on Broadstrand Lad. One suspects they may have to work hard for victory however with Champion Stakes winner Uncle Eoin and Pablo Supreme well housed on the outside. At probable odds, Uncle Eoin could represent real value at around the 5-1 mark.
Tyrur Big Mike threw away his chance in the opening round by steering an extremely wide path and it could be a similar case again in the final heat. Most likely to take advantage is the tight-railing Swift Marathon.
Impressive opening-round scorer Airforce Frankie is entitled to respect, but a trap five draw is unlikely to aid his cause. Expect Tyrur Big Mike to dictate, but he could be vulnerable to Swift Marathon and Airforce Frankie.
Dynamic Trend is a deserving favourite to lift the Gain Feeds Irish Cesarewitch at Mullingar this evening.
Helen Whelan’s bitch suffered defeat in the opening round but has been in imperious form since.
Blessed with tremendous pace, she posted the fastest time of the competition in the semi-finals (33.15) and a repeat of that effort should be good enough.
