Derby date keeps Demons focused

UCC Demons may have secured the southern conference title but they won’t be resting on their laurels when they entertain Bord Gáis Neptune in the Nivea for Men SuperLeague and what will be the final derby of theseason at the Mardyke Arena tonight (7.30pm).

Derby date keeps Demons focused

This will be the fourth time the two Cork men’s SuperLeague sides have crossed paths this season and, despite losing the game they were most fancied to win on the first weekend, Demons enjoyed supremacy in the other SuperLeague tie and thesemi-final of the national cup.

Those were two games Neptune would like to forget and their thirst for revenge was underscored this week when they signed Michael Bonaparte for this game as cover for injured Ron Thompson. “Ron Thompson has been carrying a leg injury so we decided Michael would be a good option as his experience in the league will stand to the team,” coach Mark Scannell said. “We are in a funny position because if we lose to Demons and Moycullen then UL Eagles could pip us to the runner-up spot in the Southern Conference.”
