The obvious move for new owner PJ Fahy would have been to name the dog Tyrur Noel but he previously had a dog of the name and it is too soon to use it again. Tyrur Justin will travel to England tomorrow to join trainer Charlie Lister who will prepare him for the Wimbledon classic.
Another leading English Derby candidate, Barefoot Allstar, clocked a brilliant 17.42 in a solo spin around Curraheen Park.
This fellow has just been renamed after being bought by Bryan and Kathleen Murphy and was previously known as Rattlin Goldstar. In his puppy season he clocked 28.28 around Curraheen while he was a four length runner-up to Milldean Panther in 28.13 at Shelbourne.
Trainer Hennessy has deliberately kept the dog away from Shelbourne this year as he doesn’t want him to get confused by the different traps. He will have a few runs out of the Wimbledon traps and it is likely he will be accompanied to Wimbledon by last year’s finalist Barefoot Bullet who is currently side-lined with a slight injury problem.
The Murphys currently have a brilliant bitch called Priceless Spark while another of their dogs, Barefoot Missile, clocked a very smart 28.58 in an A1 contest at Shelbourne on Saturday. Add in another recent acquisition, Barefoot Duke (ex Kilara Duke) which has flown in his two races around Kilkenny, the Cayman husband and wife team have much to look forward to.
The sprinters will hold centre stage at Curraheen Park for the next few weeks with the Kudos Creative Catering Supersprint commencing at the weekend with heats on Friday and Saturday. Early signs are that we are in for a cracking competition with a few flying trials posted at Saturday’s session.
Fastest time was the brilliant 17.39 run from the Graham Holland trained, Martin Murphy owned Knockglass Billy as he dipped under the official track record of 17.40. Other times were: 17.55 Magical Rover; 17.65 Headleys Fantasy; 17.73 Calling Spice; 17.75 Headleys Ringo and 17.82 Fleetwood Saki. The draw for the sprint will be made at noon today in Curraheen.
