Cubans keen to become American idols

MIKE “THE REBEL” PEREZ has won all 17 of his fights — 12 by KO — since arriving in Cork from Cuba but tonight he will face his biggest challenge yet.

It could be a defining moment in his professional career when he touches gloves with the durable Friday “The 13th” Ahunanya on the undercard to the Jermain Taylor-Jessie Nicklow fight at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California.

Taylor, the former undisputed world middleweight champion, is making his long-awaited return to the ring on ShoBox: The New Generation on the Showtime network and two of the three Cork-based Cuban boxers will feature.
