TONIGHT’S action at Curraheen Park is in aid of Bothar and it’s a card that starts slowly, but finishes with a flourish.

The nap of the night goes to Patrick O’Regan’s Black Diver, who should stamp his authority all over the tenth race.

The lightly raced tracker has only beaten one greyhound home in his last two races, but that does little justice to how he’s performed each time.

Most recently he dropped back to an unsuitably short 525 yards, where he missed the kick, but showed big pace in defeat behind Kranky Ma.

Prior to that he contested the Tyrur Kennels Open 575 and was in the process of turning close to the pace when meeting with horrendous trouble.

He steps back up to that 575 yards trip this time and there’s no doubt that this race represents a sizeable step down in class.

Although he may be ideally suited to being drawn further out, he has the pace to turn close to or on the pace in a race that lacks real early pace.

Although it may not be required this time, Patrick O’Regan’s dog looks capable of posting an Open Class time over this trip at some stage and he can take this en route to better things.
