Sports Minister Varadkar to review Horse Sport Ireland chairmanship

THE position of Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) chairman is under review after Sports Minister Leo Varadkar discovered recently its structures do not stipulate a fixed length of tenure.

It also emerged that, in a breach of governance, no legislation was ever enacted to cover the body.

It is believed the situation was brought to Mr Varadkar’s attention by the departmental secretary and came as a major surprise. A spokesperson described the lack of legislation as “unusual”, to say the least.
