Rails pitch to suit Macoboy

MACOBOY has been an expensive dog to follow in his short career to date, but there’s no doubting the pace of Ted McCarthy’s pup and he can gain a deserved breakthrough in tonight’s final of the Vincy Barry Construction A4 at Curraheen Park.

The youngster, who is a litter brother to last Friday’s A5 Stake winner Direct Customer, has been in the wars on all three outings to date and it wouldn’t have required much luck to turn those three runner-up finishes into three victories.

In tonight’s race, he has drawn the rails pitch for the first time and it should work a treat. Balamory Boy, who runs from trap two, moves wide on the run-up and that should leave Macoboy with plenty of room to work with.

There’s absolutely no doubt he’s capable of dipping well under the 29 seconds mark and, if he can break on level terms, he should prove too good for what is a very useful field.

Meanwhile Dan O’Brien has a strong hand in tonight’s final of the Track Bar A5 at Youghal and he can land the prize courtesy of Mogeela Bomber.

The youngster overcame what was not an ideal draw when winning his semi-final heat and, though it would be more favourable were he just one box closer to the rails, he has the early pace to go clear to the turn and that should be enough.

His litter brother and kennel companion, Mogeela Buster, has shown some impressive early pace, but he’s not the strongest of stayers at this stage, and he will need to clear Compass Petra passing the judge for the first time to maximise his chance.

Mogeela Bomber has a fine mix of early pace and stamina and he looks capable of shaving 20 or 30 spots off the clocks he’s recorded recently. January Morning, who ran up behind the selection last week, can go close if able to overcome a potentially difficult draw.
