Razldazl Dmagio represents the sponsors and looks certain to make a bold bid, but this is a contest where any of the sextet could develop into a classic contender in 2012. Razldazl Dmagio, Jumeirah Dubai and Coolavanny Shine seem to be the cream of this crop, but it’s hard to gauge which greyhound will show most improvement in the future.
Likewise the bookmakers could struggle to nominate a clear favourite . Razldazl Dmagio is the only unbeaten greyhound in the line up , but one has a sneaking feeling Jumeirah Dubai could head the betting despite failing to win either of his two previous starts.
The Pat Buckley-trained youngster has shown exceptional early speed and gives the impression that better is to come. Coolavanny Shine gives a similar impression, although he has a different style of racing. The latter will be doing his best work from the second turn.
Razldazl Dmagio has the best of the draw, however, and this swings the vote his way. If he can come away racing he looks certain to turn close to the lead. If doing so he has the pace from the second turn to take some stopping.
Elsewhere on the Shelbourne card the opening round of the Mannion’s Builders Supplies Open 750 will prove popular with punters. There are some established stayers in attendance, but there will be more interest in those with no or little experience over the extended trip.
One such greyhound is the incredibly fast Shaneboy Fantasy. Despite never racing beyond 550yds, he looks a potential superstar over six bends. If he does get the trip he should come home clear in the opening heat.
Others to keep an eye on with the future in mind include Peggys Style and Droopys Casanova, while Barefoot Machine is an intriguing runner in heat four.
He was last seen in the St Leger at Wimbledon, where he posted the fastest opening round time before being withdrawn from the second round. He is hugely talented and can have a big say in the stake. Mozzletoff will start a hot favourite for the Open Bitch 550 final and can make all.
At Waterford the Droopys Stud Munster Oaks, with a purse of 5,000 prize looks hugely competitive. Semi-final form would suggest Ross Flyer and Beaming Olive will play a major part, but the strong running Archaton Linda is also expected to make a bold bid.
