Irish stars take fourth

IRISH contenders for the London 2012 Olympics, Peter O’Leary and David Burrows, ended the first Star keelboat championship in Irish waters in fourth place yesterday as Italians Diego Negri and Enrico Voltolini took the European title.

In contrast to the gale-hit programme at the start of the week, yesterday saw more familiar conditions in Dublin Bay, with light and shifty airs and a brief sea breeze to contend with.

However, in all wind ranges, the Italian winners proved able and delivered four wins in the eight-race series as well as sailing home early from the final race.
