CHRISTY MULLINS will contest the Hurley’s of Midleton King of the Roads for the first time following his bowl of odds win over Éamon Bowen in the Mick Barry Cup semi-final at Ballincurrig on Saturday.

That win gained him one of the two wild card invitations for the October classic. The second wild card will go to either Gary Daly or Martin Coppinger who contest the second Mick Barry Cup semi-final.

Bowen won the opening shot by five metres and increased his lead by reaching Moore’s gate with his second. Mullins’ took his first lead with his third towards Geary’s, which Bowen missed by 30m when he hooked his reply to the left. Bowen made up for this with a good bowl towards the creamery, which Mullins beat by just 25m. He followed with a great bowl to the top of the acre to regain the lead by two metres.
