McNulty can tighten grip on Dunlop series

ALTHOUGH three drivers have won the National Rally Championship and the Irish Tarmac Championship (ITC) at different times, no driver has ever won the two championships in the same season.

McNulty can tighten grip on Dunlop series

Now, Meath’s Tim McNulty is on the cusp of the elusive double. Having moved into the lead of the ITC with a hard-earned victory in the Ulster Rally last weekend, he switches his attention to the Dunlop series in tomorrow’s Mór Oil Galway Summer Rally, round seven of the National Rally Championship.

The late Frank Meagher won the national championship in 1986 and the Tarmac series in 1995; Hillsborough’s Ian Greer notched his national success in 1993 and six years later, won a Tarmac title. Derry’s Eugene Donnelly netted a national title in 2003 and the Tarmac title a year later.
