Baba‘s finishing kick can seal the deal
A finalist 12 months ago, finishing fourth, Kerryroad Baba carries a 100% record into tonight's renewal of the €3,000 to-the-winner stake.
The Clonmel challenger finished with a flourish when carding 42.63 in the heat and produced a remarkable performance when following up in last week’s semis.
She walked out of traps and trailed the field until kicking into overdrive at the fifth bend, cutting through her rivals like a knife through butter to collar Dawningoftheday close home in 42.14.
Kerryroad Baba is capable of turning closer to the pace tonight and, that being the case, her finishing kick can seal the deal.
The line-up is littered with dangers, including the highly promising Dawningoftheday made all in 42.65 before finishing half a length runner-up behind Kerryroad Baba.
John Kiely’s tracker has greater scope than most and has to be shortlisted for the prize.
Prolific scorer Group Skater has enjoyed little luck in the stake so far, meeting trouble in both runs.
He is a talented sort but a trap four draw leaves little room for error.
Native Legend and Kielduff Merc are useful sorts but will need to step up on recent efforts to take a hand in the finish.
The card also includes the semi-finals of the Wilton Shopping Centre and Notabodderboy stands out in the second.
This fellow set the standard in last week’s heats, making all in 30.36, and should carry to many guns for Cantstopmenow.
