Maguire’s late strike breaks Bandon hearts

BANDON’S Irish Hockey League qualification hopes were dealt a bitter blow as they were undone by a late Three Rock Rovers goal on day one of the wildcard play-offs at Garryduff last night.

Rovers had gone ahead through Tom Samuel before Ali Smith equalised. The sides shared seven yellow cards and a red for Scott Sullivan before Michael Maguire touched home the winner.

In the women’s competition it is advantage Old Alex and Ards; Roisín Flinn notched a hat-trick for Alex as they saw off an under-stength UCC 4-0, while Heather McClurg’s pair of breakaway goals helped Ards see off Greenfields 4-1.
