Rockview Head surprise winner

THERE was a major surprise when reserve Rockview Head won a thrilling Gallivan-Murphy-Hooper-Dolan €15,000 Juvenile Classic final at the Kingdom Greyhound stadium last night, but only after a photo finish.

The warm favourite, Droopys Twirl, trained by John Linehan from Cork, who was unbeaten in the event, just failed to reach the first bend in front as Waterford raider Happy Hermit led round the opening two bends and down the back straight.

Droopys Twirl then made her bid on the rails but was crowded at the final bend and instead it was Rockview Head who moved up on the outside and just got up close home in a three-dog photo finish.

Rockview Head beat Happy Hermit by a short head in 28.67 with the favourite Droopys Twirl a short head back in third. The winner is owned by Jimmy Ferncombe, from Thurles, and trained by Peter Cronin.
