THE spotlight may be on Willie “Big Bang” Casey’s clash with WBA champion Guillermo Rigondeaux tonight but another Irishman, Brian Magee, bids for the IBF world super-middleweight title in Montreal in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

While Casey has never won an Irish amateur title, Magee is a four-time Irish champion and won a silver medal at the European Championships in Minsk in 1998. After 12 years in the pro ranks, he faces the biggest fight of his life against IBF super middleweight champion, Lucian Bute at the 21,000-seater Bell Centre.

“I’ve had to work very hard to get here and do a lot of things to get this shot,” Magee said last night.
