New GUI president excited by role
Fayne, a native of Kiltoom and a member of the Athlone club, takes over from Sean McMahon of Adare Manor and is looking forward to a year he confidently predicts will shed further lustre on Ireland’s image as one of the strongest nations in the game. However, he will also preside over a body charged with promoting and protecting the best interests of the amateur game, so he is only too well aware of the many challenges that lie ahead.
“A major part of my job will be in helping to guide the Union through what are difficult financial times for our clubs,” he acknowledged. “Membership is suffering a decline so we will all seek to support our clubs in every way we can to cope. And we make will serious review of our operations in terms of savings.”
