Lynch finishes strongly in Spain

SHOW JUMPER Denis Lynch rounded off a good weekend at the World Cup show in Vigo, Spain, when steering Abbervail van het Dingeshof to fifth place in yesterday’s grand prix.

Lynch finishes strongly in Spain

In Saturday’s World Cup class, Lynch and the gelding were among an amazing 17 combinations that made the jump-off from a 35-strong starting line-up. However, two fences down saw them place 14th. Lynch also started out well at the show, taking the opener on Tarpan.

Jessica Kürten, too, was in the ribbons, including placing third with Fashion in yesterday’s two-phase.

In Dortmund, Germany, Shane Breen showed he is gelling nicely with Ronan Tynan’s Warrenstown You 2. The Sussex-based Tipperary rider and the bay stallion — campaigned successfully by Tholm Keane until recently — were among 16 to make the jump-off in the grand prix and another clear saw the new partnership finish third. Breen also had success with two more Irish-bred horses, winning the young horse qualifier with Cos I Can and finishing third in yesterday’s final, while he was second in a speed class with Camblin.

Limerick’s Paul O’Shea continues to impress in Florida, finishing 10th in the World Cup qualifier with Realman, two places ahead of Cork’s Shane Sweetnam (Rolette).

John Floody won the Chippison contest in Kildare, with PMR Rehy Irish All Star.
