Rigo and Casey to meet in Cork

WILLIE ‘Big Bang’ Casey and Guillermo ‘El Chacal’ Rigondeaux will exchange pleasantries for the first time ahead of their March 19th showdown when they meet at the Lee Rooms in the Montenotte Hotel in Cork next Sunday at 2pm.

While they have taken time out to watch recordings of their fights, this will be the first time they set eyes on each other and the press conference will incorporate a light work-out in a championship ring which will be erected specially for the occasion.

Casey will have his work-out under the watchful eye of two time European bronze medallist, Philip Sutcliffe, who heads up his team while Tony Dunlop will travel from Belfast to work with Rigo and will also be an assistant in his corner in Citywest on March 19.

“Rigo wants to find out what all this ‘Big Bang’ hype is about,” his manager, Gary Hyde, said. “And he says he will put a sudden stop to it all at Citywest on March 19.

“In the meantime he does not want to be friendless at Citywest and is anxious to drum up support in Cork. He feels that, having a Cork manager, the boxing fans in Cork will come out to support him. He will be handing out gifts and he will make himself available for photographs and to sign autographs.

“It is going to be a big occasion for boxing fans in Cork with both Rigo and Willie present and there will be no admission charge.”
