Trinity bank on Dutch inspiration

TRINITY College Dublin hope their Dutch wildcard inspires them to victory as the most open intervarsity tournament in recent years begins in UCD on Sunday.

Roderick Beudeker plays his club hockey for HDM in the Dutch Hoofdklasse, widely considered the world’s best domestic league, but dons a Trinity shirt for the first time at the weekend.

European regulations forbid Beudeker — who is on a four-month placement in Ireland — from playing in full domestic competition here, but he is eligible to line out for the TCD varsity side.
