Plenty of rain but good surf ahead

A MONSTROUS low is hanging off the north-west coast and how close it gets to Ireland will dictate how wet and windy the weekend ahead will be.

Plenty of rain but good surf ahead

Right now, Saturday and Sunday look like some heavy showers but the winds will vary in strength. Tomorrow will have with some very heavy showers across the country with no region staying fully dry. The winds will have a mainly southerly element to them and temperatures will hover around 14C. Some sunny spells can be expected on Sunday afternoon but don’t travel too far without rain gear.

As for surf; well, after what can only be described as an amazing weekend last weekend, the next 48 hours are not as breathtaking but still well worth the drive. The low off the north-west will generate some strong swell with a period of double figures but wind strength and direction will make for some tricky conditions in the south and south-west. The west will be cleaner but have a lot more passing squalls. The north-west will see some great waves well over head high and lots of power. There will be a lot of water moving around these northerly surf spots and with that low lingering right on our doorstep, I’d urge caution when taking on the bigger spots.
