TYRUR BIG MIKE will be an absentee from Heat 7 in the second round heats of the Pat Hennerty Sales Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park this evening.

Tyrur Big Mike ruled out of Laurels

Owner PJ Fahy yesterday confirmed that the brilliant Derby runner-up had sustained a few niggly injuries in his first round outing and that he will now be rested until next season.

Said Fahy: “We had him examined by the vet and he found a few little problems. He advised to give the dog a break and we have decided he has done more than enough for this year. We want to try to do a College Causeway with him and come back to win the Irish Derby next season. That will be his major target and his only other likely events are the Easter Cup and the Champion Stakes.”

Fahy hasn’t yet decided whether Derby winner Tyrur McGuigan will race again this season. “He is in good form again but we give him a little time and see whether he will run in the St Leger. We have had huge demand for both dogs at stud but we haven’t decided on whether to give them some bitches over the winter either.”

Meanwhile, Tyrur Enda can consolidate his place at the head of the Laurels market by taking heat eight of the second round of the classic.

Conor Fahy’s ace is as low as 5-2 for outright honours following a hugely impressive first round performance.

He was forced to take a very wide route in the back straight last week but drove the third bend with real determination to turn an uncompromising position into a winning advantage, landing the spoils in 28.33.

De Ex Factor dug deep to get up close home in 28.39 and reads the pick of the opposition.

Jonny Whitesox, the fastest of the heat winners in a brilliant 28.16, faces a searching test in heat six.

He is flanked by a couple of top notch sprinters but if displaying the same bullet-like early pace as last week can prove equal to the task.

Irish Derby finalist Tullymurry Act was impressive when landing the odds in 28.48 last week and gets the vote to overcome an outside draw in heat three.
