Around the tracks
There will be a major occasion at the track on Sunday when the card will include the eagerly awaited clash of Cooladerry Fizz and Kiltrea Kev in the final of the Suirside Stayers Open 750 the big attraction. The card also includes three other graded finals. Forthcoming events with starting dates are: 48 dog €2,250 Supporters A1 575 on September 5, 24 dog €1,030 Newcastle GAA A3 550 on September 9, 12 dog €550 A3 575 on September 12 and 24 dog €1,010 Skywalker Ace/ Magic Open Unraced on September 16.
An Inter District County Championship, the brainchild of the Enniscorthy Track Supporters Club, is to be staged at the venue. Planning is advancing for a proposed challenge between dogs from the Enniscorthy, New Ross, Gorey and Wexford districts of the county. The event will likely cater for greyhounds between A3 and A6 over the 525, 575 and 600 yard distances.
The Bridie Langton’s Derby second round heats will be run at Kilkenny tomorrow with last year’s Irish Derby finalist Faypoint Man again looking a likely heat winner. Entries are invited for 12 dog 525 yard stakes (Backgraders) for A1, A2 and A3 to be run on Friday, September 10: The 24 dog €1,000 Radical Menswear N1 525 will commence on Wednesday, September 8.
There will be a change to the schedule this week with racing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The additional Sunday meeting will be an interesting experiment and is a matinee fixture organised by the Thurles Track Supporters Club. There will be loads of activities for the family and the first race will go off at 2 pm with admission at just €5.
Tomorrow’s card includes the second round heats of the Keg Security A3 Stake and then on Saturday the big fundraising venture for B For Battens Saoirse Foundation. Saturday’s meeting will feature 12 all-sponsored races. There will be a special draw on the night for a greyhound pup, the pick of the litter by Crash out of Saleen Tanya which has been donated by Tom and Pat O’Connor. The O’Connors will rear, maintain and train the greyhound free of charge. Tickets are available at a very reasonable rate of €5. Sporting legends from the worlds of GAA and rugby will be among the crowd on the night and there will be fantastic spot prizes to be raffled as well as a sports memorabilia auction.
