On Saturday, the Wexford teenager came second in the 1500 metres freestyle in a phenomenal 16.02.29 – taking eight seconds off the Irish record she set in the heats and the second fastest time in the world this year.

The achievement, the first Irish podium finish at the Europeans in 13 years, has ignited expectations of further glory at the London Olympic Games in 2012.
