McCarthy clocks Euro standard
The Kildare athlete, who also represented Ireland at the world indoor championships in Doha last March, came home ahead of Alan O’Brien (Crusaders), 1:48.47, and David McCarthy (West Waterford), 1:49.29.
Two athletes qualified for the world junior championships from the 1,500m. Paul Robinson (St Cocas, Kilcock) hit the standard finishing fifth in 3:46.83, as was Darren McBrearty (Letterkenny) in sixth (3:47.15).
The 1,500m was won by Rory Chesser from Ennis TC in 3:45.08.
Kelly McNeice was just outside the European standard when she won the 800m in 2:03.96 with Orla Drumm (UCC) second in 2:10.39 and Siobhan Eviston third in 2:13.06.
