Demons edge fierce rivals in thriller

CORK derby games in particular are special but last night’s NIVEA for MEN SuperLeague thriller between UCC Demons and National Event Hire Neptune went beyond all the boundaries for excitement, drama and then a nailbiting finish.

It took one period of overtime to separate the sides after they were tied at 97 points apiece at the end of normal time and it was on a knife-edge until the last throw of the game when a big three-point effort from Neptune’s Ger Noonan travelled around the rim before dropping the wrong side.

They brought the crowds out and then they brought them to their feet with some thrilling basketball that saw some new stars emerge, particularly for Neptune, but it was the experienced players who eventually decided the game in overtime.as Shane Coughlan added a big three to baskets from Niall Murphy and Niall O’Reilly.
