Nigerian hurdler fails drug test

NIGERIAN athlete, Amaka Ogoegbunam, has tested positive for the anabolic steroid, Metenolone, in a test taken after she competed in the semi-final of the women’s 400m hurdles.

Ironically, the urine sample was collected after she had been disqualified for an infringement during the race and she has not requested the analysis of the B sample.

The athlete has been provisionally suspended and will not take part in any further competition in Berlin. She was due to compete in the women’s 4 x 400m relay over the weekend. A record number of tests have been taken in the lead up to the championships and also during the event.
