Chamney and Campbell set for double showdown in Santry

MIDDLE distance fans could be in for a double treat at the Woodies DIY national track and field championships at Santry’s Morton Stadium tomorrow with the possibility of a head to head between Thomas Chamney and David Campbell in both the 800m and the 1,500m finals.

Chamney and Campbell set for double showdown in Santry

The stage was set for the showdown when Chamney finished third behind former Olympic champion, Yuriy Borzakovskiy, in 1:45.41 in the 800m at the Golden League meeting in Oslo with Campbell snapping at his heels in 1:45.59.

Two years ago Campbell came off a big win in the 1,500m at Cork City Sports to bring off an 800m/1,500m double at the national championships — repeating Eamonn Coghlan’s double of another era — and he went to the world championships in Osaka on the back of that.
