Peters’ amazing re-match coup

BRIAN PETERS brought off what can only be regarded as an astonishing coup by getting Ricardo Cordoba’s management to sign a voluntary defence contract without a re-match clause.

This is something virtually unheard of in boxing circles, particularly with a world title at stake.

It meant that Cordoba flew out of Dublin at 7.30am yesterday on the first leg of his return trip to Panama without his WBA world super bantam-weight belt and unlikely to get it back in the immediate future with the Dubliner unlikely to agree to a rematch.
