Dubliner McCambridge set for marathon debut

MARIA McCAMBRIDGE makes her marathon debut at the Lifestyle Sports-adidas Dublin City Marathon on Monday when her presence will add an air of excitement to the record entry of over 11,700 who will face the starter.

It was always expected that the Dubliner would compete over the classic distance after an illustrious career at both track and cross-country.

On the track — to date — she has won three national titles at 5,000m, another at 10,000m, represented Ireland at the Olympic Games in Athens, European championships, indoor and outdoor, the world championships and it was her performance that clinched the bronze team medals for Ireland when the world cross-country championships were staged on Leopardstown Racecourse in 2002.
