DAVID GILLICK was returning to the scene of last year’s record-breaking performance when he raced in Geneva and, while the record he set there remains intact at 45.23 secs, his 45.65 sec opener was spectacular.

He finished second to his training partner, Martyn Rooney, who has strong Irish roots and who powered clear over the last 50m to win in 45.19 secs.

Joanne Cuddihy finished fifth in her 400m race in 53.08.

That race was won by Lee McConnell in 51.64.

Alistair Cragg finished fourth in the 5,000m race in New York in 13:25.36. The race was won by Shadrack Kosgei (Kenya) in 13:14.46 from Ali Abdosh (Ethiopia), 13:14.50 and Samuel Chelanga (Kenya), 13:24.73. Scott Overall from Great Britain was fifth in 13:56.29.

Ciaran O Lionaird posted a personal best and European U23 standard with a 14:07.92 for 5,000m.

David Campbell ran his seasonal best for 800m at 1:49.43 secs in Manchester but Mark Carroll failed to finish his 10,000m race in Brussels.
