Mikey lands tenth win in six weeks for new connections
The winner, who had landed the final of a sweepstake at Limerick on Thursday, was the highlight of a double on the night for Wadsworth - his second double at the venue for the week.
Compass Mikey, bought at the March sales at Curraheen, has now won ten races in six weeks since joining Wadsworth’s kennel.
The winner was moderately away on Saturday but took advantage of trouble up front to move into second behind Silverduff Jet early in the back straight.
Compass Mikey moved up to join the pacemaker before halfway and then kicked on at the third bend. He stayed on strongly afterwards to record a two and a half lengths success over Perfect Jayne in 29.59.
Wadsworth’s Compass Owen, in as a reserve for kennelmate Compass Scully, ran out the fastest winner in the first round of the Johnson & Perrott Kia Stakes.
The winner made all in heat 2 for a two length success over Olympic Baretop in 28.83.
An inside draw proved decisive for Trout City in the concluding Parfrey Murphy Getting Out Stakes.
Having edged the bend ahead of Lady Candy he was in control afterwards as he eased to a length and a half success in 29.09. The winner's record when drawn in trap one now reads two wins and a second from three runs.
